Fructose breath testing is a test which measures the amount of hydrogen released in breath as a result of the indigestion of fructose. Higher the hydrogen values, poorer the digestion of fructose.
Fructose intolerance breath testing is performed to diagnose an inability to digest fructose, a simple sugar naturally found in fruits and some vegetables. This causes diarrhea, flatulence and bloating after consuming fruits and some vegetables.
To achieve accurate results, you must have an empty stomach before the procedure. You should not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before the test. You should also avoid eating slowly digesting foods like beans, bran or other high fiber cereals the day before testing.
